FEMMA organized a start-up and training workshop within the framework of the program “Increasing the capacity and skills of social organizations in the northern mountainous region on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in activities of the national target programs at localities”

Within the framework of cooperation between the FEMMA – Thai Nguyen University and the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam, on October 16 and 17, 2023, FEMMA organized a start-up and training workshop under the program “Increasing the capacity and skills of social organizations in the northern mountainous region on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in activities of the national target programs at localities”.

The workshop welcomed the attendance Mr. Shawn Steil – Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam, Ms. Leigh McCumber – Political and Cultural Information Counselor from the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam; Dr. Bui Thi Huong Giang – Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology and Foreign Affairs, Director of FEMMA, Associate Professor, PhD. Tran Van Dien, senior advisor to FEMMA; teachers and 30 trainees who are leaders and officials from social organizations in the provinces of Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Son La, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Hoa Binh, Dien Bien and Thai Nguyen.

The start-up and training workshop held on October 16 and 17, 2023 at Thai Nguyen University is the first activity within the framework of the program ” Increasing the capacity and skills of social organizations in the northern mountainous region on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in activities of the national target programs at localities”. During 02 working days, trainees were equipped with knowledge about gender equality in fields of leadership, management, public administration, health, education, economics…; learnt about gender gaps in access to livelihood opportunities, labor, employment, medical support, education and many other aspects. Students conducted discussions to identify existing gender inequality issues in the locality, proposed and developed action plans to resolve existing issues.

The program ” Increasing the capacity and skills of social organizations in the northern mountainous region on gender equality and gender mainstreaming in activities of the national target programs at localities ” will be implemented from October 2023 to February 2024 with the goal of equipping and improving gender integration skills for leaders and officials of a number of social organizations; at the same time, guiding the implementation of students’ action plans. Expected results of the program include 01 start-up workshop, 01 training course for 30 students, 01 technical support program to design, implement, monitor and evaluate student activities, 4 -5 group action plans, 01 field visit program to learn and exchange experiences and 01 workshop to summarize and share the results of implementing the action plan with students. Along with the expected results, the Organizing Committee also expects to build a cooperation network among social organizations in the Northern mountainous provinces to jointly carry out activities to promote gender equality and gender mainstreaming in National Target Program activities carried out locally.

FEMMA aims to create opportunities, empower and promote the social, educational, economic and political development of all women and girls to achieve substantive gender equality through projects such as advocacy related to women’s rights; eliminating violence against women and girls; improving women’s leadership and decision-making skills.
