FEMMA started the training program on “Promoting leadership, gender mainstreaming and action planning skills” in 03 mountainous communes of Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province

With the consent of the People’s Committee of Yen Bai province, the People’s Committee of Tram Tau district and the facilitation of the Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee of Hat Luu commune, on July 24, 2023, the Center for Research and Development of Female Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas (FEMMA) – Thai Nguyen University (TNU) held the opening ceremony of the training program “Promoting leadership, gender mainstreaming and action planning skills” in Hat Luu commune, Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province. This is the first activity in the Project “Improving Local Community Capacity” jointly implemented by FEMMA, Embassy of Switzerland in Vietnam and the Yen Bai Provincial Farmers’ Association.

The opening ceremony welcomed the appearance of Mr. Hoang Xuan Long – Standing Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial Farmers’ Association; Mr. Vu Dang Quynh – Member of Tram Tau District Party Committee, Chairman of Tram Tau District Farmers’ Association; Ms. Hang Thi Dong, President of the Women’s Union of Tram Tau district; Mr. Hoang Van Sua – Deputy Secretary of Hat Luu Commune Party Committee and leaders of local departments; on behalf of Thai Nguyen University, Dr. Bui Thi Huong Giang – Deputy Head of Science, Technology and Foreign Affairs Department, Director of FEMMA -TNU; teaching experts and 30 ethnic minority trainees who are leaders or in leadership plans at all levels of government and mass organizations in Hat Luu commune. The training program “Promoting leadership, gender mainstreaming and action planning skills” will be organized into 3 courses in Hat Luu, Ban Cong and Xa Ho communes of Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province from the 24th to 29th July 2023.

The project “Improving local community capacity” will be implemented in Tram Tau district, Yen Bai province in July and October 2023 with the goal of equipping and improving leadership capacity and gender mainstreaming skills for male and female leaders, especially female ethnic minority leaders; and at the same time guiding the implementation of the action plan and widening the network of female leaders in ethnic minority areas. Expected outcomes of the program include 03 training courses, 15 – 20 trainee action plans, 01 dissemination workshop. From the expected outputs of the project, the Organizing Committee expects to create long-term effects  so that local leaders, especially ethnic minority women, can apply their knowledge and skills at training courses effectively; 15 – 20 action plans will be successfully implemented and bring benefit for 2000 ethnic minority people, which will mobilize to increase the percentage of female leaders in ethnic minority areas and move towards eliminating gender stereotypes.

FEMMA aims to create opportunities, empower and promote the social, educational, economic and political development of all women and girls to achieve substantive gender equality through projects such as advocacy related to women’s rights; eliminating violence against women and girls; improving women’s leadership and decision-making skills.
